Cleaning is an essential skill we must all have to maintain the beauty of a home or an office space. And there is no doubt that one of the most difficult objects to clean is carpets.
Carpets not only improve the attractiveness of the room, but it also keeps the rooms warm, give a feeling of softness when walking, prevent accidents, and can also be recycled.
We can’t avoid the benefits of carpets at home and office. Hence, in this article, we’ll be discussing the different ways in which we can protect and clean our carpets, wherever it may be placed.
It is expensive to rely on cleaning services all the time. Therefore, knowing a few tricks and trips can save a lot of your bucks in the future.
Vacuuming
It is recommended to vacuum the carpet once in two days, if not every day. Everyday dirt and grime accumulate on the carpet from our shoes and outside air.
Often we don’t really vacuum properly. So make sure to clean the roller brush of the vacuum before vacuuming.
Ice cubes can help to fix indentations on the carpet after vacuuming. You can also fluff the surface with a fork after it.
Use baking soda on liquid stains (especially stinky ones) before vacuuming. Besides, to prevent bad smell on the carpet, vacuum with Downy Unstopables.
You won’t believe this, but you can attach ketchup bottle tops to vacuum hose to clean narrow, corner areas, such as keyboards.
Removing Pet Stains
To remove a urine stain, blot with a paper towel or cloth as hard as possible. The professionals recommend not rubbing the surface, no matter how efficient rubbing may seem. As rubbing can spread the stain and make things worse.
Don’t forget to wear gloves while you’re blotting pet stain and discard the towel appropriately.
If you’re using commercial pet cleaners, make sure to leave no residue. The residue will attract more dirt than usual. Besides, avoid using hot water. Try to use lukewarm water to avoid fiber damage.
Substantial stains need baking soda, a half-and-half mixture of water and vinegar on the stain, before blotting. In order to remove vomit or feces, prepare a solution of lukewarm water, a tablespoon of salt, a tablespoon of liquid soap, and half a cup of vinegar, soak a towel in the mixture before blotting the stain with it.
Removing Wax
In order to remove wax off the carpet, you must not use water at all. Instead, use ice cubes.
Put the ice cubes into a plastic bag and blot away the waxy area. The plastic bag will prevent the carpet from getting wet.
Now be careful when you’re scraping the wax off with a butter knife. You can use a depressed knife to minimize the effect of scraping on the carpet fibers.
In the end, vacuum away the small chunks. You can follow the same steps for removing candy crushes from the carpet.
On the other hand, you can also use a damp towel over the wax. Then, iron over the towel for ten to thirty seconds, which should draw the wax from the carpet into the towel. If the wax does not come off at once, keep repeating the process until it is completely gone.
Removing Blood Stains
Blood stains are easier to remove when they are still fresh. However, if they are dry, use a steel brush to scrape off the stain.
Now prepare a solution of water and dishwashing soap, of which the ratio should be a spoonful of dishwashing soap and two cups of water. Get a towel and dip it in the solution, and blot over the stain continuously.
The above process should remove the blood stain successfully. However, if the stain still persists, prepare another stronger solution.
This time create a solution with a half cup of mild water and a tablespoon of ammonia. Use a towel to soak and blot the stained area repeatedly until the stain is gone.
Finally, soak a sponge in cold water and blot the area until dry. That is all.
Removing Alcohol
Just like blood stains, alcohol stains are better removed as early as possible. Prepare a mixture of detergent and lukewarm water at first. Use a sponge or towel to soak the mixture in.
Blot the stained area with the soaked towel or sponge. Please don’t rub the stain as it will make things worse. Always blot.
Now you have to prepare another solution consisting of two cups of lukewarm water and a cup of vinegar. It is better to use a spraying bottle in this case.
Pour the solution into the spraying bottle and spray on the stained area. You will notice the stain slowly vanishing.
Lastly, blot with a fresh set of cold water soaked in a towel. Once the area is dry, vacuum over the surface for a final touch.
Removing Grease
You can use either of the two mixtures we will recommend here. They will both work well in removing grease stains.
The first mixture is prepared by mixing dishwashing soap and vinegar. If the stain is dry, use a knife to scrape it off. Now either spray the mixture over the stained area or use a sponge to soak and blot on the area.
Once the stain is gone, blot with a clean towel soaked in water. Then dry the area with a dry towel.
The other mixture you can prepare is with dishwashing soap and baking soda. After scraping off the dry grease with a knife, sprinkle some baking soda over the stain and wait for one hour.
Let the vacuum cleaner suck up all the baking soda. Then use the dishwashing soap over the stain and scrub with a toothbrush.
Finally, blot with a towel soaked in clean water. It is better to not use a lot of soap, as that is bad for the fibers.
In the End
Big corporations tend to use professional services to clean their carpets using a bunch of fancy, expensive tools. If you don’t want to spend on fancy, expensive stuff, use the easy-to-do methods above.
To remove any sort of stain, the basic essentials are lukewarm water, sponge or towel, knife to scrape dry stain, and a combination of mixtures you can even prepare in your kitchen.
